The objective of this restoration plan is to restore an agricultural field to a complex of high quality emergent,
scrub-shrub and forested wetland communities (approximately 21 acres), with an adjacent buffer restored to a big
bluestem prairie complex (approximately 50 acres).

To compliment the natural heritage and educational missions of
the Dawes Arboretum, a variety of plant communities will be established within the emergent, scrub-shrub, and forested
habitats. Palustrine emergent habitats will include mixed emergent marsh, floating-leaved riparian marsh, hillside
seeps, sloughgrass-bluejoint prairie and sedge meadow. Palustrine scrub-shrub habitats will include a buttonbush
swamp, alder shrub swamp, and leatherleaf bog. Palusrine forest habitats will include a tamarack hardwood bog and a
maple-oak-ash swamp, which will be the climax ecosystem to the sloughgrass-bluejoint prairie. The buffer will be a big
bluestem prairie complex.
